Social Anxiety

NLP AND COACHING FOR HELPING WITH OVERCOMING SOCIAL ANXIETY AND DEVELOPING SOCIAL CONFIDENCE ….LESS ANXIETY EQUALS MORE CONFIDENCE

Having the high levels of confidence you would like to have in social situations is something many people want and we all know certain extroverts which always seem to be the centre of attention. Most people fit in-between introversion and extroversion and are happy to spend time alone doing ‘their’ own thing and at other times want to be around people.

Most people don’t want to become party animals or the centre of everything going-on but they do want to be able to join-in, converse and move around talking to new people and strangers alike. It’s at those times when you want to be out at a party, social function or maybe something to do with work that some wish that they felt more comfortable, energetic and self-confident.

Confidence for social situations is connected to social anxiety and sometimes referred to social anxiety disorder which is a fear of social situations. It can be very deep ingrained and can be all you can remember being like or it can sometimes seem to come-on or get worse from no apparent reason – however whatever the case for you it can be helped.

I would always suggest the first place to start would be at the beginning, so looking for any root cause and hypnotherapy is excellent at finding the root cause. From here onwards it would be about working on the here and now and present life real life situations, and there are many techniques within NLP, hypnosis and through coaching which will enable you to overcome your previous fear.

Types of Social Phobias

Generalised Social Phobia – Is a chronic, persistent or intense fear of being judged by others or alternatively being embarrassed or humiliated by their own actions.

Specific Social Phobia – Is when the intense anxiety or fear of doing something embarrassing only happens in very specific situations.

People suffering from a social phobia will feel self-conscious and worry about what people think of them, of the way they look, of the things they are saying, of how they are saying (or not saying them).

This can get to the extent that when a social gathering or situation comes up they can begin worrying straight away from hearing the news or getting the invite and from then onwards build this worry and anxiety up and create a situation where they will avoid the event. Sufferers may also point blank refuse any social engagements, parties or gatherings. In extreme cases the person will become socially isolated and this can lead to depressive and anxious illness and conditions.

As with any area of confidence and any phobia issue I would suggest starting by addressing whether there is a root cause and beginning, this is primarily because if not addressed it will always be in your unconscious mind. Using hypnotherapy I can help you to be able to look at things differently, feel better about social situations, be more comfortable, relaxed and confident around people. And from here onwards there are many techniques and strategies I can teach from NLP, self-hypnosis and ideas from positive psychology.
